Privacy Policy

Here’s the part where most sites pretend they don’t track you while tracking you. We keep it simple: we collect very little, use it sparingly, and sell it to absolutely no one. Because no one asked.

1. Who we are

We’re kwowt.com (“we,” “us,” “our”), a small website dedicated to sending demotivational quotes and rare updates. Entertainment is the goal. Privacy is the baseline.

2. What we collect

  • Email address: only if you subscribe. Voluntary, like optimism.
  • Analytics: we use Matomo to track basic page views. These insights help us decide if the website should exist, as no visitors means it will eventually go offline. IPs are anonymised.
  • Basic server logs: routine logs for security and debugging may exist. We don’t use them to follow you around.
  • Cookies: we use minimal cookies for site functionality and analytics (Matomo). No ad trackers.

3. How we use your information

  • To send you daily demotivational quotes or the occasional “major update,” if you asked for that.
  • To analyze aggregated site traffic so we can see how many people are being successfully disappointed by our content.
  • To keep the lights on, prevent abuse, and diagnose issues no one wants to debug.

4. Legal bases for processing (if you’re in the EU/UK)

  • Consent: for sending emails you explicitly subscribed to.
  • Legitimate interests: for basic site operations, security, preventing abuse, and aggregated, anonymous analytics.
  • Legal obligation: when the law says “do it.”

5. Analytics and Privacy

We use Matomo to understand how the site is used. This involves a tracking script and may set cookies to help us get accurate insights. We anonymise IP addresses and respect "Do Not Track" (DNT) headers. We don't do profiling, behavioural tracking for advertising, or cross-site identification. It’s just numbers to help us see if anyone is actually here.

6. Cookies

We use minimal cookies necessary for the site to function and for basic analytics. No ad tech. No cross-site stalking. If you block all cookies, the site may sulk, but it will mostly survive.

7. Service providers and third parties

We may use trusted services to send emails or host the site. They process data on our behalf and under instructions. We don’t sell your data, rent it, swap it, or package it as a mystery box.

8. Data retention

We keep your email until you unsubscribe or we shut the whole thing down in a moment of clarity. Server logs rotate on a normal schedule and aren’t kept forever.

9. Security

We use reasonable security measures to protect your information. Not “military-grade,” because that’s a marketing term, but sensible enough that we lose sleep only occasionally.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data, as well as to object or restrict certain uses. If you want to exercise those rights, reach out. We’ll handle it without drama.

11. Unsubscribing

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Use it anytime. No guilt trip. No three-question survey about your “journey.”

12. International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than yours. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards as required by law. The quotes remain equally disappointing worldwide.

13. Children

This site isn’t aimed at children. If you’re a parent and think your kid signed up for daily demotivation, contact us and we’ll fix it.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above. If the changes are dramatic, we’ll try to let you know, without confetti.

15. Contact
